Pet Obedience Classes

Training your dog strengthens your bond, greatly enhances your relationship,
while providing the mental stimulation and enrichment that our canine friends need.

Class Format

Each class runs for 50 minutes, once per week, with classes running for seven weeks. The first class of Puppy Kindergarten & Beginner Pet Obedience meets without dogs, in order to familiarize you with our training methods and allow us to answer any questions or concerns you may be having at home.

Puppy Kindergarten

This is a 7-week course for puppies ages 8-20 weeks of age (24 weeks for small breeds) at the start of class. It is comprised of basic training in puppy manners, puppy socialization and behavior management. You will learn how to teach your puppy to come when called, walk nicely on leash, sit, lie down, stay, greet people politely, and more. Puppies will have the opportunity to safely interact with one another to help build their skills in socializing with other dogs in an appropriate manner. Home management issues such as biting, barking, house training, and jumping will be discussed.

(Please note that puppies do not attend the first class).

Puppy Kindergarten

Graduate Puppy

This is a 7-week course for puppies under a year old that have completed puppy kindergarten. As we continue to develop a good working relationship with our puppies, we advance previously taught behaviors and begin some distance and off-leash work.

Beginner Pet Obedience

This is a 7-week course for dogs over 5 months of age who have had no previous formal training (dogs do not attend the first class). The curriculum is similar to that of Puppy Kindergarten, encompassing coming when called, walk nicely on leash, sit, lie down, stay, greet people politely, etc., but geared towards the older dog. Emphasis will be on the application of training to daily life and on strengthening your relationship with your dog.

(Please note that dogs do not attend the first class.)

Continuing Education

Training your dog is an ongoing process. This 7-week course follows our beginner course, building on previously taught behaviors and beginning more advanced behaviors. You will continue to learn and incorporate learning theory to better understand how to ensure that behavior is consistent no matter the location or distraction. This course can lead to completing Canine Good Citizen tests, Therapy Dog Certification or entering obedience competition.

CGC Prep

Canine Good Citizen – “CGC is a ten-skill training program that’s open to all dogs–purebred and mixed breed–that focuses on teaching the basics of good manners and obedience, instilling the values of responsible ownership, and strengthening the bond between you and your dog at home and out in the community.” At the end of this course you and your dog will be able to participate in a test that will evaluate the skills you have worked on, and if successful, your dog will earn their CGC award.
